Beaches are an iconic part of Australia, and this theme mixes Australian cultural values with the science behind their natural ecosystems. We look at the importance of life savers and in doing so, introduce the idea of ocean currents. Children learn about sun safety, swimming strokes and safety in boats, and using props and costumes, they build sandcastles, surf on surfboards, practise swimming between the flags and learn how to call for the help of a life saver. We also look at hermit crabs and mimic some of their movements in our hermit crab dance.
This program provides the opportunity for children to achieve a wide range of ACT Curriculum Essential Learning Achievements (ELA). Click here, for a full breakdown of the ELAs this program covers.
