Maris was born in Canberra and has long had a passion for environmental education and inspiring creativity in young people. He has been involved in dance, music and sports since he was a child, including Latin Ballroom and Breakdance, as well as sports coaching. He is currently studying Environmental Policy and Corporate Sustainability at the Australian National University, and is a Vice-President of the National Executive Council of the Australian Association for Environmental Education.
