DanceKids Instructor/Party Host
Description of Business DanceKids presents themed, educational dance programs at schools pre-schools and childcare centres that are designed for young children up to the age of 10 years. We also conduct children’s birthday parties.
Description of Duties At DanceKids we provide fun, educational, themed dance programs in childcare centres, pre-schools and primary schools. Our themes aim to engage children in exploring the natural world and cultural diversity. We also have great fun at children’s birthday parties. Additionally, we conduct school holiday programs at CSIRO, the National Dinosaur Museum and the Botanical Gardens. We need someone who is available to present our programs on at least 2-3 mornings per week and on week-ends for parties as required.
We need someone who is very flexible and creative! This special person will have the following attributes: • Experience in teaching dance to young children (hip hop experience would also be good) • A passion for the natural environment • Loads of enthusiasm • Loves to work with young children • Enjoys the creative challenge of new concepts This is a casual position and sessions are held in centres throughout Canberra between the hours of 9am and 4pm, therefore you will need your own car. Training sessions will be provided.

School Holiday Fun and Our New Newsletter

We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who joined us over the School Holidays for our School Holiday Programs at CSIRO Discovery and our inaugural program at The National Dinosaur Museum. We had a great time and received a lot of positive feedback from kids and parents.

Next holidays we’ll be continuing to build on our program at the National Dinosaur Museum. We will of course be continuing to offer our very successful programs with CSIRO Discovery as well. Stay tuned for the announcement of an exciting new theme we have in the works for our CSIRO programs.

We’re also very happy to let you know that we are launching a DanceKids Newsletter in the next couple of weeks. Our goal is to provide you with a simple and easy option for keeping track of what’s going on at DanceKids, including School Holiday Programs, Birthday Parties and any special events we have planned.

Nothing is more annoying than signing up for a newsletter and then getting spammed with emails you don’t care about. We understand this and will only send you emails we really think you’ll care about and be interested in.

National Dinosaur Museum & DanceKids School Holiday Program

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be running a new school holiday program these April School Holidays in conjunction with The National Dinosaur Musuem. This awesome new program allows us to offer an expanded DanceKids Dinosaur Program and gives kids aged 4-6 and 7-12 the opportunity to experience everything the Museum has to offer.

DanceKids and CSIRO – April School Holiday Programs

DanceKids is happy to announce an expansion of our CSIRO Discovery School Holiday Programs in the upcoming April School Holidays. We have doubled the number of sessions being offered allowing us to offer specialised sessions for children aged 4-6 and 7-10.

~~We are also excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Green Machine on two of our Themes – Butterflies and Dinosaurs – to offer a longer and more in depth program.~~

Due to an unfortunate personal situation, we will no longer be running programs with The Green Machine. The Programs on the 17th and 18th of April will run like our other programs:

(10:30-11:30 is ages 4-6 and 12:30-01:30 is ages 7-10)

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM & 12:30 PM – 01:30 PM – Tuesday the 17th of April – Butterflies

DanceKids at Playfest 2011

To celebrate ACT Children’s week, we will be at Playfest 2011. This year Playfest, formally known as The Playgroup Expo is celebrating the International Year of Forests and as part of this, Sue will be giving demos of our Rainforests Theme. Come along and enjoy the free entertainment!

Dinner Plain Presentation

Sue Jones, director of DanceKids, has been invited to present a program that will focus on the Australian Alpine environment to the children at the Dinner Plain School near Mount Hotham Victoria. The program will build on a component of our Camouflage program that looks at the migration of the Bogong moths to the high country in summer and the importance of the moths as a food source for the endangered Pygmy Possum. We will focus on some of the valuable work being done to assist the preservation of the possum such as the creation of tunnels under the road near the resort that connect possum populations.

Following the seasons, we will see the Pygmy possum hibernating as people enjoy the ski season above. The melting of the snow in spring will see the importance of bogs and Sphagnum Moss in regulating the flow of water, ensuring a healthy river system year round. The wild flowers bloom and the Bogong moths arrive in late spring and summer and the Pygmy possums will feast again in anticipation of their long winter sleep. Autumn brings the development of seeds in the alpine vegetation and the migration of many birds and animals down the mountain before the snow falls again.

The DanceKids July school holiday programs at CSIRO Discovery were so much fun and were extremely popular with every session booked out! Butterflies, Under the Sea, Camouflage and Rainforest were the themes presented and were enhanced by a power point presentation adding visual excitement to the activities. Some parents have already booked their children into the October holiday programs where we will explore the following themes –Honey Bees, We need Water, Dinosaurs and Rainforest. If you would like your child to take part in these programs please call CSIRO Discovery on 62 464646 to make a booking.

Florey Pre-School Shows Off Their Artwork

The beautiful artwork of Florey Pre-school!

We recently presented the Camouflage program at Florey Pre-School. The children became Decorator crabs disguising themselves by sticking debris from the ocean floor all over themselves and then staying very still! As leaf tailed geckos we used colour and texture to hide ourselves from the owls that use flight silent feathers to sneak up on us. The children’s understanding of these camouflage techniques was further enhanced by making decorator crabs and leaf tailed geckos in their art time. Bogong Moth cards were also made to create invitations for parents to come to the final dress-up presentation.
